In the 16th century, the siege of Haddington occurred between 1754 and 1755. The siege was the longest in British History. Most of the centre of Haddington dates from the 18th and 19th century, notably the townhouse (1748), Courthouse (1833) and Corn Exchange (1854). Also situated in the town is the largest parish church in Scotland, St Mary's Church. Construction on the church commenced in 1375; it was consecrated in 1410.
